Glass Specification
By laminating a coloured interlayer, or a combination of coloured interlayers, into a glass unit we can create an almost limitless range of colours for you within an architectural or structural glass assembly.
Coloured PVB interlayers are also available to be combined with various levels of translucent interlayers for a cloudy, sandblasted or acid etched effect.
For a completely opaque glass finish coloured interlayers can also be mixed with two opaque interlayers of black or white so that no light or vision can penetrate through the glass panel.
By laminating a UV stable interlayer between two layers of glass we can create extremely vivid colours. A colour matching service is available to enable you to get the colour required from your decorative glass panels.
In addition, coloured PVB interlayers within a glass unit increase the strength and security of a glass elevation by the integration of a toughened laminated unit and reduce the amount of UV radiation that can penetrate through the glass elevation.
The coloured laminated glass panels can be integrated into most framing solutions depending on the overall glass thickness and can be used within all structural glass installations.
Decorative interlayers are a fantastic way to turn glass into a featured part of any home design. They can be incorporated into almost any glazing solution, both internal and external.
Often using with internal glazing systems, the IQ Glass showroom has a pane of structural glass with a green coloured interlayer, which forms part of our glass box extension.
Seeing this type of decorative glazing in person allows you to see what sort of saturation and light transmission you can expect through a coloured interlayer.
The Showroom
We have a number of glass structures at our showroom that utilise coloured interlayers for both decoration and privacy
A snow white translucent interlayer is used within the structural glass clerestory windows, to both the ground floor and upper floor offices, that face the Metropolitan train line to London providing excellent privacy and a diffused light.
A vibrant bright green glass unit has been created as part of the structural glass box extension to our offices. The bright green hue has been created using a coloured interlayer to showcase the strong colours that can be achieved.
Colours Available
We can create over 17,000 colours using a combination of coloured interlayers. The system is based on 16 basic colours that can be combined up to a maximum of 4 layers to create the colour that you required.
For a striking glass hue there are 4 strong coloured interlayers that can be integrated.
Translucent finishes can be achieved by including a white interlayer in a range of levels of opacity. For a fully opaque finish an opaque white or black interlayer can be used. If you let us know what colour you require we can match it.
Gradient Colour Options
We can now offer a gradient coloured interlayer that changes from 65% translucency to fully transparent up the length of the glass unit or width.
This is particular useful for elements of glazing that wish to hide structure behind one area of glass but allow transparency through another.
A translucent transitioning effect in glazing is the perfect alternative to ceramic frits, back painting, or printing on the glass and gradually changes to transparent to reduce the stark contrast between light and dark.
Glass Specification
The coloured interlayers come on rolls that are 3.2m wide so are able to be laminated into any glass panel available in the UK.
The thickness of the interlayers will depend on the number of interlayers used within the glazing. Each single coloured interlayer is
Our coloured interlayers are PVB and are able to block up to 99% of damaging UV radiation up to 380 nm from penetrating through the glass face. You will also achieve a reduction in the G factor of the glazing helping to reduce solar gain.
