Contemporary New Build in Hyde Park Estate

IQ Glass supplied and installed all architectural glazing, including structural glass to this new build property within the Hyde Park Estate.

The architects were looking to create a bright spacious home within this limited space in the secluded mews site in Connaught Village. Getting natural light into the house was a major design concern.

The house is bracketed on all sides by tall imposing buildings so each element of glazing was carefully selected with a minimal aesthetic in mind, maximising glass and minimising unsightly views.

To the front elevation, large frameless structural glass panes were used to create ‘punch windows’ through the charred timber façade.

The large Frameless Picture Window to the ground floor opens the compact living space and brings in lots of light.

A bespoke construction of automated timber louvres was designed for this large window to close it off at the push of a button for privacy and shading.

All door openings from the living spaces and bedrooms to the outside were selected to maximise the amount of glass and minimise framing.

The minimal windows® sliding doors from IQ provided large glass expanses with minimal frames to make the most of the limited outdoor space this building has.

The flush threshold across the door base was paired with our integrated drainage channel to ensure the transition from inside to out was as seamless as possible.

Large structural glass rooflights bring in natural light from overhead and internally a complicated arrangement of glass balustrades allow light to travel through the decorative central staircase.

Even the glass door to the utility room was carefully selected as an aluminium casement door for quick and easy access to the house utilities.

The project is proof that even the smallest plot can be utilised and enlarged with proper use of architectural glazing.
