Slim framed bifolding doors create light filled glass extension in London

The brief for this project was to introduce natural light into the main living space, without disrupting the much loved garden space beyond recognition. By utilising slim framed bifolding doors to merge these two areas of the home, the homeowners can now enjoy their garden space from the comfort of the living room.

The glass extension in London uses a number of bespoke glazing solutions to create a functional space that maintains a minimal design and allows the natural light to remain the primary feature. The upper floor also benefitted from the renovation, with slim framed sliding doors being used to grant access to a private balcony area.

The combination of the structural glass roof and the glass balustrade on the first floor grants the illusion of a continuous glass finish, separated only by bespoke aluminium pressings that have been designed to conceal the fixing details above the slim framed bifolding doors.

Upstairs, slim framed sliding doors lead the way to the balcony area which is complete with frameless glass balustrades, acting as a safety barrier without disrupting the flow of natural light or garden views. Frameless glass balustrades are perfect for enhancing the safety of above ground spaces without visually impacting the wider design, thanks to the subtle nature of frameless structural glass.

The slim framed bifolding doors have been specified in a biparting configuration, stacking neatly on either side of the opening to reveal a completely open aperture. When the doors are open the flush threshold detail allows for step free travel, helping to create one large indoor-outdoor living space for the homeowners to enjoy.

Split into 6 leafs, the slim framed bifolding doors were specified in a khaki green colour RAL colour to match the surrounding greenery of the garden and nearby pond. Above the doors a structural glass roof joins the extension to the main house, letting floods of natural light into the interior design thanks to the minimal design. Structural silicone joins the 3 panes of glass together to create a frameless finish to enhance the traditional interior design further.
