A London home has been recently renovated using specialist architectural glazing to maximise the natural light into the living spaces yet retain the original features of the grade II listed property.

It was a challenging project that needed to seamlessly link three buildings built in three very different eras to form one family home. The main building is a Grade II listed 17th-century house, with the second building built in the 1980′s leading to a 1900 coach house to the rear.
The project had numerous constraints; it is located within a conservation area, the property is grade II listed and half of the courtyard is listed as a Scheduled Monument.
Slim framed sliding glass doors and steel framed Mondrian® windows enabled these three properties to become a single family dwelling with plenty of natural light. Minimally framed sliding doors were used to both the lower and upper floors providing light-filled interiors and an effective contemporary contrast with the art deco steel windows.
The slim frame sliding glass doors to the upper floor has an integrated glass balustrade. This creates a modern Juliette balcony design, enabling the minimal windows to open up providing the necessary ventilation. A seamless transition between the internal and external provides the perfect outdoor living space within the enclosed courtyard
Contemporary steel replacement windows were used to replicate the original features of the mews house whilst exceeding modern thermal performance requirements.
The use of modern steel replacement windows enables these three properties to become a single family dwelling with plenty of natural light with excellent energy efficiency. Transoms were applied to the window design in order to replicate the original aesthetics providing an industrial ‘loft’ design style to the property.
The exceptionally engineered thermally broken windows provide slim frame steel replacement windows in a thermally efficient and cost-effective windows design. A frosted privacy film has been applied to the bottom half of the windows, this maintains natural light levels but also provides some privacy to the rooms. All framing was completed in a dark grey RAL colour for a cohesive design throughout the renovation project.
