Architectural Glazing to Residential Refurbishment in London

IQ Glass provided all the specialist glazing elements to this high specification house refurbishment in London. The project included the renovation and extension of the lower ground floor living areas as well as the creation of a new central staircase.

A large glass roof above the double height stairwell allows maximum light exposure whilst ensuring clean consistent lines across the architectural design. Frameless glass balustrades along the balcony and stairs allow the light to filter through from all angles negating any shadowing to the lower levels.

To the rear, the ground floor living areas are filled with natural light thanks to the minimal windows® sliding doors that create the entire rear wall. These floor to ceiling glass doors offer minimal frames and maximum glass for the seamless merging of the inside with the external courtyard.

Access to the rear garden is gained from the upper ground floor through a set of traditional patio doors, in keeping with the surrounding properties and architecture. The refurbishment stays contemporary and light, with a walk–on glass rooflight installed above the set of large sliding glass doors to the living area.

The frameless rooflight brings light down into what may otherwise have been a dark sub-ground level space. The view from above shows the flush walk-on finish of the rooflight set into the rear decking and being functional from either angle.

The aluminium frames of the sliding glass doors were powder coated RAL 7024, Graphite Grey.
