Mondrian® Glazing installation to a property conversion

Broadhurst Gardens is located in the London Borough of Camden, within the South Hampstead Conservation Area and Viscount Gough Estate.

The Architects, MW Architects, proposed the conversion of two self-contained flats into their original state which was a single-family home. Part of this project was to demolish a single-storey rear extension to create external terraces at both the ground and first-floor level.

Due to the history of the building, the homeowners wanted to create a design that focused on traditional detailing while retaining a fun and vibrant family home.

Throughout the home, timber and black metal work can be seen as a prominent feature within the design, especially for the whole of the ground floor and master bedroom suite. As the property flows towards the children’s rooms, the colours gradually become softer and more playful.

During this conversion project, IQ Glass designed manufactured and installed the Mondrian® glazing systems both internally and externally.

The steel framed windows and doors were designed with a black finish to accentuate the dark tones used within the interior design, especially the dining room a kitchen furnishing. 

Seven External Mondrian® Doors were installed to the property, which was manufactured using low iron toughened glass set within a high performance thermally broken frame.

Alongside these double casement doors, two fixed casement windows with low iron glass and one with sandblasted low iron glass were also installed to create a cohesive design throughout the family home.

To continue with the steel framed glazing design throughout the interior, various internal Mondrian® glazing systems were installed.

An internal Mondrian® folding screen was installed to offer an element of separation between the open-plan living, dining and kitchen space.

These folding doors can be opened or closed to suit the changing needs of these spaces, as the glazing design has beautifully thin frames an abundance of light can continue to flow throughout the living spaces when the doors are both open and closed. 

For an additional element of separation to the kitchen, an internal Mondrian® sliding door with a pocket door was installed during this project.

The pocket door enables the sliding door to be hidden within the wall cavity when the door is not in use, thus revealing the open-plan design.

These internal Mondrian® systems add versatility to the open-plan living space to allow for certain areas to be broken off as and when desired.
