Rebecca Clayton from IQ Glass and the Dormers luxury new build project was featured in an article by Grand Designs Magazine called “5 things to consider before buying windows”. The article covers glazing and frame options, through to style factors and planning permission.
While discussing frame options, Rebecca Clayton said: “Steel gives the narrowest sightlines for a hinged window…it also offers an artisan industrial style which is on-trend at the moment”. There are many framing options including aluminium and frameless glass. “Frameless windows made from structural glass are also available from fixed glazing, with frames hidden by the building finishes,” says Clayton.
The IQ Glass project, Dormers, was featured within the article to showcase large glazing installations that were installed on this project. Vertically sliding sash windows were the main glazing feature on this project that spans a double-height elevation. Frameless glass windows were also installed on this project alongside sliding doors to obtain maximum light ingress.
Windows from IQ Glass vary in price depending on the system. In the article by Grand Designs, Rebecca Clayton said: “frameless designs start at £900 per sqm, aluminium casement from £650 per sqm, and thermally broken steel windows from £1,200 per sqm”.
The article also focuses on the glazing specification of the windows which mentions Low-E coatings, U-Values and Building regulations. Rebecca Clayton advised that “if you let your glazier know what performance and characteristics you want; they’ll be able to advise you on the spec”.
