Contemporary newbuild in Hertfordshire

Structural glazing is a very popular choice for contemporary architectural designs. With endless design possibilities, frameless glazing is extremely versatile enabling a bespoke design perfectly suited to the requirements and desires of the client.

This contemporary home renovation project in St. Albans, Hertfordshire features a two-storey atrium with full height structural glazing for a bright light-filled hallway. The large structural glass walls have been incorporated into the design to increase the amount of natural light into the open plan living spaces. The owners’ desire for a bright, light-filled hallway leads the design with frameless structural glazing incorporated to the front elevation.

This large renovation project uses numerous bespoke glazing elements, one of them being a glass canopy. In order to provide some protection from harsh weather conditions, a structural glass canopy was installed to cover the front entrance creating a porch roof.

The glass canopy was designed by IQ to cantilever from the exterior wall with supporting metal arms.

Frameless glass balustrades have been designed to maximise the natural light throughout the hallway providing a contemporary and minimalist design.

A contemporary building design requires consideration when it comes down to the style of windows to be used within the design. Using such a versatile material like aluminium allows slimmer framing and larger panes of glass to be used in the contemporary window designs enabling even more natural light to flood open plan living spaces.

Aluminium casement windows enabled a cohesive contemporary design throughout the renovation and maximising the light throughout.
