Stonecrop wins the East Midlands Building of the Year Award 2021 in the RIBA Awards
Stonecrop, a contemporary new build project by Featherstone Young, has won a number of awards in the RIBA East Midlands awards 2021. The sustainable home took home the RIBA East Midlands Award 2021, RIBA East Midlands Project Architect of the Year 2021 sponsored by Taylor Maxwell, RIBA East Midlands Sustainability Award 2021, sponsored by Michelmersh, and RIBA East Midlands Building of the Year Award 2021.
The architects on this project designed a modern new build, complete with a number of high-end glazing systems, to make the most of the stunning surrounding landscape. The project utilised slim framed sliding door systems from IQ in a sliding pocket configuration, allowing the homeowners to reveal completely open apertures when the high-end doors are slid open.
Our slim framed sliding door systems are designed to merge indoor and outdoor environments, with the door leaves sliding into hidden wall cavities. The flush threshold detail allows for seamless transitions between the two environments, helping to create an indoor-outdoor style of living. The aluminium framed sliding doors grant access to private balcony areas, allowing tonnes of natural light to flow freely through the internal living spaces.
The contemporary new build home was designed with sustainability at the heart, with aluminium systems chosen due to their recyclable properties. Aluminium is infinitely recyclable, helping the build to qualify for the sustainability award this year. Based in Rutland, the luxury home features a curved green roof on one of the wings, perfect for blending into the landscape.
