With the 2023 Architects Journal (AJ) Retrofit Awards underway, IQ Glass has had several projects that feature our bespoke glazing listed as nominees. IQ Glass projects have been consistently nominated over the past few years and it is something that the whole team at IQ Glass are immensely proud of. The nominations do not only act as recognition for the finished product, but the hard work from all departments across all of the IQ Glass offices and the hard work on site which has allowed us to create such wonderful projects.
Farm street
Farm street is a non-residential project located in West London. Garnett Architecture designed this office building to be arranged over two floors, the entrance is within a private gated courtyard in Mayfair. This project contains a variety of IQ Glass products including Thermally broken steel double doors and Sieger 120 Bifold doors. Shortlisted for the category of “Workplace up to £5 million”, this project will be one to keep an eye on.
Eighty strand
A contemporary upgrade has transformed the iconic, Grade II Listed, Shell Mex House, which occupies a prominent position on the river Thames. An impressive and welcoming entrance pavilion has been created to re-orientate the building towards the Strand. A new, fully glazed entrance pavilion has increased the floor area for the reception and greatly improved the arrival experience to the building.
Lea Bridge Library
IQ collaborated with Studio Weave to design, manufacture and install the architectural glazing solutions to the Grade II Listed Lea Bridge library in East London. The library extension added a café and adaptable community space to the listed building, designed to deliver a revived civic heart for the borough of Waltham Forest. Lea bridge features a huge glass façade with floor to ceiling glass allowing for great views while reading or studying.
B.A.F.T.A
IQ Projects were involved in the development of the extensive refurbishment and expansion of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts Headquarters at 195 Piccadilly. The most recognizable feature of the Richard Attenborough rooms is the wall lined with slim framed sliding doors, creating cascading light to bleed through the gold partially opaque curtains.
Made of Sand
Made of Sand - A unique two storey extension to a stone cottage in Devon uses timber and glass to create a unique design. The timber and glass extension by Studio Weave is an artist’s retreat and sought to maximise the connection to the surrounding landscape. The large frameless window that takes up the majority of the first floor is set neatly into the timber structure. The eye-catching timber and glass extension has been widely recognised amongst the industry for its impressive design and approach to a local scheme in Devon.
Hunts Green Barn
A sympathetic restoration of a neglected 16th Century barn in Oxfordshire features IQ Glass’s slim framed sliding door and windows, connecting the barn to its original architectural vernacular, this understated barn restoration breathes new life thanks to the structural glass that brightens up the space, accommodating 21st Century living. The high performance slim framed sliding doors and windows are thermally broken, contributing to the insulation of the property.
Elizabeth Mews
Elizabeth Mews - A garage conversion of a mews house in Belsize Park was reconfigured to form a minimalistic, yet warm haven. Tactile textures and subtle, yet statuesque accents of beauty are found throughout this family home. IQ Glass’s floor to ceiling frameless glass Pivot door allows unimpeded access to the outdoor courtyard which floods the former basement space with an abundance of natural light and ventilation creating a serene and comfortable environment.
